INSTITUTE
OF LIFE SCIENCES TO BE SET UP ON HYDERABAD UNIVERSITY CAMPUS

A Memorandum of Understanding was signed this
morning for setting up a world-class Centre of excellence
in Life Sciences Research, to be known as ‘Institute of Life
Sciences.’ The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Dr.Y.Narsimulu,
Registrar of Hyderabad University and Mr.G.V.Prasad, Director
of Institute of Life Sciences. Dr.Kota Harinarayana, Vice
Chancellor of University of Hyderabad, Mr. B.P.Acharya, Secretary,
Industries & Commerce, Dr. A.Venkateswarlu, Member of the
State Biotech Advisory Board, Mr. G.Subramanyam, Project Director
of Life Sciences Institute, members of the Faculty of Hyderabad
University and others were present on the occasion.

| Dr.
Kota Harinarayana expressed the hope that this Institute would
provide the ideal platform for industry-academia partnership.
He also mentioned about the proposal to set up a Science Incubator
and Science Park in the adjoining area for research in new frontiers
of Sciences, such as, Nanotechnology, Bio-Medical Engineering
etc. Mr. G.V.Prasad opined that major Pharma and Biotech Companies
would get actively involved in this initiative, which seeks
to emulate world-class model such as, Johns Hopkins Institute
and Scripps Institute in the USA. Mr. B.P.Acharya, Secretary,
Industries & Commerce assured the required support from the
Government for this important initiative, which will put Hyderabad,
on the world map of Life Sciences Research. |
